Books for guys who actually like to read: Being a DoodPosted: February 7, 2012
since the thursday night meltdown, this will be my first actual post. i figure i’ll run what i was going to post friday but couldn’t get to. i’ll be in NO for 2 weeks either thurs/fri, so i won’t be posting as often. just….FYI.
Portable Henry Rollins- Henry Rollins. i like this one because it gives a good selection of work of his: part short stories, part journal entries. it’s an interesting read. i’ve been a fan of Black Flag since i was a kid. so this book was a no-brainer for me. he’s got a great perspective on things and he’s smart as hell.
Ahead of All Parting- Selection of Poetry and Prose of Rainer Rilke. Real men read poetry. PERIOD. of course i like the usual candidates: Neruda, Bukowski, Lorca, Bequer. well Rilke is on some good shit. a friend of mine put me onto Rilke and i wasn’t disappointed.
i fugured i’d go old school with this week’s band. some of you might remember these guys from back in the mid 90’s. the album, “you’d prefer and astronaut” is to this day, one of my favorite albums. i linked “stars” because that was the song most people knew them for. it was their only radio hit. and……they all fucking geeks. oh, and the reader’s that remember 120 minutes get’s extra “cool points”. Hum had some of the most beautiful and poetic lyrics i’ver heard. enjoy. suicide machine is my favorite. the last verse is quite possibly one of the most beautiful things i’ve ever heard.
