Books for guys that actually like to read.

this week i was trying to figure out a decent subject matter for the book post. i decided i’d go with Mexican shit (ala the GREAT Mexican restaurant i just discovered) and New Orleans. so….let’s get to it.

Aztec- Gary Jennings. i read this in high school. it’s got it all: sex, violence, drama, and a GREAT story. this is a LONG story too. basic premise- a young boy is born with a bad eye-sight in the Aztec times. he manages to hide his disability lest he be killed for it. he becomes a scribe, warrior, merchant, inventor, and lives a very rich and interesting life. this is a beach reading book. like i said, this is a VERY long, but VERY good story.

N’awlins Over Easy- Donald Hanks. i actually know the author of this book. he’s a philosophy instructor at UNO. i took his “ethics” class. BRILLIANT guy. a tad loopy but he’s a northerner who transplanted to NO. this book is a series of short stories of his unique experiences in NO. very funny, and very well written. eclectic isn’t quite right, but it’s a good start.

stay up.

and now…..enjoy some built to spill.

Dude, ever read Pappilon? Breathtaking adventure story, and confirmed to be mostly true!

My bad. It’s spelled Papillon, by Henri Charrière. I read it 20 years ago and have kept a copy ever since. Another great guy book is Death in the Long Grass by Peter Capstick. Hunting big game in Africa while the animal is stalking you.

Zorro, If you liked Death in the Long Grass try anything by Jim Corbett.

    Danny.

See if you can get your hands on this book. It’s the best historical fiction that I’ve ver read.

And for Sci-Fi, I recommend this.
